Knitting has taken a back seat
17 05 2011Spring has arrived in all its freshness, colour, and delicate beauty. The knitting needles will lanquish a little longer while the garden tools come out. My husband gifted me with a gift certificate to one of the local greenhouses. I am looking forward to shopping for flowers.

Shrugigan – a good knit fit for people in wheelchairs
25 09 2010This pattern is a wonderful fit for persons in wheelchairs. It is deep enough to fit around a person’s back and sides as well as arms.
I found the link to the pattern on River City Yarn’s August Newsletter. http://www.rivercityyarns.com/Newsletters/Aug_2010.pdf
One large ball of Red Heart wool was enough for the entire piece.

Strong Life -“ You cannot be anything you want to be- but you can be more of who you already are. “
28 04 2010Our staff had the best Professional Development day last Friday, men and women alike. I would like to share some of it with you.
Each person received the book “Strengths Finder 2.0” by Tom Rath. The book contains a one time use access code to do Gallup’s Strengths Finder test. At the end of it we received our top five strengths. In the past, the conventional wisdom with deficits was to put in more practice time and hope to improve. For example, a lousy math mark meant more time practicing math. Well if you don’t have a natural talent in an area all the practice time and energy is not going to overcome the deficit. We can learn some strategies and yes improve but if you don’t have a talent for numbers you’ll never be a really good or great accountant. It is better to invest in ourselves and children in areas where there is most potential for greatness. For example, “Michael Jordan who embodied the power of raw talent on a basketball court, could not become” a Tiger Woods in golf, “no matter how hard he tried.” (I don`t mean for this be a bad joke.) They are both talented athletes but each in their field of talent.
This is a link to the test we took. http://strengths.gallup.com/110440/About-StrengthsFinder-2.aspx
Here is what I would like to share with you – a free test for women based on Strengths.

Marcus Buckingham worked at Gallup for 17 years where he also helped create the “Strengths Finder” assessment tool.
I love the focus of looking at our strengths instead of our deficits. Take the test and let me know what you think.

Finally found an affordable scale
19 10 2009On Thanksgiving weekend, my daughter-in-law asked if we could pick up a tablecloth that she had on hold at Stokes. While there, I asked if they sold any electronic weigh scales. They did, for $25.00. It is just perfect for weighing wool. What you are seeing is one of two balls of wool at 9 gms each for the second mitten in another pair I am presently knitting. The pattern uses yards but I weighted the last pair of mittens to gauge if I had enough wool for this pair. This tip came from a fellow Knitter at our Wednesday night group at the Second Cup.
